About
DANCE IS AN EXPRESSION OF RHYTHM, MUSIC, BODY LANGUAGE AND MIMICRY. AFRO CUBAN BODY WORK UNITES THESE ELEMENTS IN A VERY PERSONAL WAY OF TEACHING.
“For me it is interesting to work with every student individually and over the long term on their own development.”

The philosophy behind Afro Cuban Body Work is physical authenticity.
From early on I was fascinated by the fact that a transcendent moment can be reached through the connection of the body with universal energies.
Since 2007 I have been passing on my long experience as a teacher of pantomime, dance and body expression to women — and by now also to many men — who are interested in developing authentic movements based on the sensual movement culture and the rich cultural history of Cuba.
Here I developed my teaching concept of the traditional and modern Cuban dances such as rumba, son, salsa, timba, Afro and pantomime further, placing a greater focus on training body awareness, emotionality and authentic expression than on purely figurative dance.
We begin each of my classes with movement sequences from Danza Contemporanea de Cuba, with which my principles for movement patterns are trained: the play with contrasts, the flow of the movement, and the building of tension and muscle.
My movement work is based on the axiom “conciencia de la ley física” of Alejandra Casado (Argentina), “Lógica Global Convergente”, which I have been studying since 2016.
It is about activating the unconscious and bringing the body into connection with the mind. The activation of different levels of awareness and the attentiveness of all the senses follow various sequences that lead to an authentic movement. For me these principles are not only the basis for an expressive dance, but equally a philosophy of life that holds the possibility of finding strength and self-confidence in oneself, of freeing oneself from dependencies and structures, and of being able to create something new out of oneself. Above all I am interested in helping my students discover and develop their own strength and joy in movement as a fundamentally human competence and source of strength.
I connect this awareness with the fundamental principles of Cuban dance: Afro-Cuban movements, the spiritual taking-on of the characteristics of the orisha deities, sensuality and coquetry, the connection with the energies of the earth, the sky and empty space. With the profound theory and practice of Danza Contemporanea Cubana and the physical and biological laws of LGC, I have in recent years been able to achieve great progress in body work and artistic expression with my students.
In this way we create not only a great dance quality, but above all a strong body awareness and the expansion of our emotional strength.
In this sense I thank you for your interest and hope to meet you in person soon.
